On sunday, the 26th of september 2010, was held in Mallorca the ninth edition of the cyclist challenge Trencagarrons “the Puig Major climb by bike”. On this occasion, the spectacular cycling test, brought together almost three hundred participants, including fans from Mallorca, the rest of Spain and many other european countries.

Full recovery of the complete challenge track, after two years without being able to reach the Puig Major summit, has been one of the highlights of the 2010 edition, along with meteorological uncertainty that has kept pending participants and organisation for the weather forecast until minutes prior to departure.

At the moment of starting the challenge in Alcúdia, the dark clouds over the Sierra de Tramuntana presaged the downpour that was downloaded on the cyclists during the ascent to Coll de Femenía (Puig Tomir), as a warning of how difficult could be their adventure. However, the constant threat of rain did not occurred in the course of the day.

The main group of cyclist, still soaked with the water spout, regrouped in the provisioning of Lluc to regain strength and phase the climb to the Gorg Blau and Cuber reservoirs, last stage before the real highlight of the day: the time trial stage to the top of the Puig Major.

Two hundred of the nearly three hundred registered participates, managed to reach the summit after entering in the fog during the 7 km time trail uphill stage with a constant slope of over a 9% and some ramps of up to 18%. The three members of the “www.MallorcaByBike” team overcame the difficulties of this very tough stage, an absolute sign of authenticity of the Trencagarrons challenge, which brings together with its natural charm, the particularity to visit a restricted area accessible only on rare occasions.

After the huge wear made, the group of cyclists enjoyed a snack at more than 1,500 meters before facing the 60 km. back to Alcudia, where the first cyclists arrived after almost 6 hours of effort on the bike.

The accumulated fatigue did not prevent the participants of enjoying the traditional meal offered by the organisation, as well as a lively exchange of opinions, discussing the stories and personal experiences of the day.

The countdown starts for the 2011 edition of the Trencagarrons. In 2011 this special cyclist trial will celebrate his tenth anniversary.
